Tākaro is the Māori word for play, and that’s why Takaro Trails is N.Z.’s #1 cycle tour company for FUN!  As a finalist in the New Zealand Tourism Awards, and Winner of the Supreme Award at the Hawke’s Bay Tourism awards in 2016, with Takaro Trails you can be confident of enjoying excellent, personal service.  So choose the self-guided cycle tour that suits you best. With three, five and seven day options we take the ‘hassle’ out of ‘independence’ so you can get on with enjoying the glorious countryside.

Slow down and savour Hawke’s Bay………… just for the fun of it!

Tākaro Trails supports ‘The Tiaki Promise‘, a commitment to care for New Zealand, for now and for future generations. Tiaki means to ‘care for people and place’ so we ask our cyclists to act as guardians during their visit to our beautiful region. Care for the land, sea and nature.  Tread lightly and leave no trace. Be safe, respect culture and cycle with an open heart and mind.  Together we can help protect and preserve our precious home.

Nau Mai, Haere Mai Ki Aotearoa, Welcome to New Zealand!

“Takaro delivers 3 days of cycling fun”  –  As reviewed on Tripadvisor January 2017

“In September 2016, Takaro Trails won the Hawkes Bay Supreme Tourism award. If the 3 day cycling trip that my son and I did was anything to go by, this was well-deserved indeed. The bikes: great quality and perfectly suited to the job, the panniers were well-designed and looked brand new, bike tools and souvenir water bottles provided. Service: pre-reading provided, great communication, tips on things to do along the way, booking restaurants no trouble, bags transported. I had my own bike (but didn’t use it) and Jenny’s team even serviced it for me while we were on the ride! Accommodation: we chose the upper end option and it was sublime – St. Andrews Escape and Ormlie Lodge. Trails: While mainly flat, battling the wind and the distances probably demands slightly better that average fitness but no particular skill beyond being able to ride a bike. Great landscape diversity and plenty of side trip options. Overall: a fine outfit run by a highly competent, friendly professional who really knows how to make her customers happy. Had to buy the T-shirt.”
