Do I need to be fit or an experienced cyclist?
You don’t need to be super fit! The tour is designed for people who want an active holiday without it feeling hard. The e-bikes make hills and longer distances much easier, and the pace is relaxed with plenty of stops along the way. If you can ride a bike and enjoy being outdoors, you’ll be fine. Plus there is a support van available each day!
Is this a social tour or more of a private experience?
It’s very social. Groups are small (10ppl MAX) and the tours usually attract a lively mix of couples, friends and solo travellers. Many guests stay in touch long after the tour and a lot of people book after hearing about it from friends who have already done it.
If you enjoy good conversation, shared meals and a few laughs along the way, you’ll fit right in.
Can you cater for dietary requirements?
Yes. The restaurants and wineries on the tour are used to catering for a wide range of dietary requirements, including vegetarian, gluten-free and other common needs. If you let the team know your requirements when booking, meals will be arranged accordingly.
What happens to our bags during the tour?
You do not ride with luggage. All bags are transported for you each day between accommodation, so your bike is just you, your helmet and whatever you want in your pockets and panniers (each bike comes with a pannier bag and front handlebar bag).
What if I need a break from riding during the day?
There is a support vehicle following the group. If you need a rest, feel tired or just want a break from riding, you can hop in the vehicle for part of the day and rejoin the ride later.
Do I need to bring anything with me?
Just comfortable riding clothes, casual evening wear, closed-toe shoes, sunscreen and a sense of adventure. Helmets and bikes are provided.
Can I come on my own?
Absolutely. Many guests join the tour as solo travellers. You will pay a single supplement for your own room.
What about weather?
Hawke’s Bay has a mild climate and the tour runs rain or shine. If conditions are unsafe, guides will adjust plans to keep everyone comfortable and safe, but most days still go ahead as planned. For example, if it rains the group might choose to travel via van.
How many people are on each tour?
Group sizes are kept small, maximum of 10 guests, which keeps the experience personal and easy to manage on the trails and at wineries.
